That said, I fully agree with most of your assessment of the show. I worried that Audra would be too Audra to play Rose. I was happy to be mostly wrong, but those few places where she hit the highest notes in that gorgeous classically trained voice pulled me right out of the show. She’s a powerhouse of a performer, and I’ve never felt Rose’s Turn so deeply and with such heartbreak for the woman. But, but.

I’ve heard that from more than one person. Sunset BLVD wasn’t on my see it list, but I’ll need to see it for work (cry me a river, right?). I’ll have to check your review after, and after I see Smash.

I sort of stumbled into your Substack and I’m finding it very interesting. I don’t know much about theater in the UK, but your writing about your theater school days rings familiar. I didn’t go to school for theater, but I’ve been working in New York theater for 20 years, and the stories are gruesome. Anyway, I’m digging your vibe

Thank you so much and I agree about Rose's Turn. We actually came over from the UK to see this production and Sunset BLVD and it feels like one is a great show and one is a great production.

Heads up, Joy Woods plays Louise. You’ve got her playing June twice
